5.1.3 Green Cleaning
Key Points
• Encourage the use of cleaning methods with environmentally-friendly
ingredients and chemicals to preserve human health and environmental
quality;
• U.S. Environmental Protection Agency studies showed that some of the top-
selling daily cleaning products are among the most toxic and may directly
impact not only the environment but also human health;
• Using less chemical-based cleaning products can improve indoor air quality
and hence the health of occupants;
• Develop cleaning procedure guidelines
for maintenance staff to follow, covering
below:
- - purchase of green cleaning products;
- - safe and green cleaning procedures;
- - staff and training requirement; and
- - feedback from occupants.
• Natural cleaning methods can be cost-
effective. Such methods are outlined
below.
