Small Steps Towards Greener Campus
Lions College
Many schools care about the environment but often have themisconception
that green projects are costly.
Lions College demonstrated how behavioural changes and building
management can lead to a more eco-friendly school.
More than a decade ago, the college started an energy savings programme
in which air conditioners in the classrooms should only be turned on when
the temperature is at/above 27
O
C and relative humidity reaches 95%. In
April 2012 the college committed to reducing energy consumption by about
15 to 20% by only turning on air conditioning units after 10am. As a result,
2 hours of daily energy consumption or 10 hours of weekly consumption
are saved.
This initiative has both a financial benefit and the benefit of student
engagement.
