5.1.6 Energy Efficient Operation of Air Conditioning

• Improve thermal comfort for occupants.

• Adjust the room temperature to 25.5

C higher with the
supplement of wall / ceiling mounted fans, without sacrificing thermal comfort;
• It is more energy efficient when the air conditioner and fan are turned on
together to achieve the desired room temperature;
• Doors segregating air conditioned and non-air conditioned spaces shall be
closed;
• Windows at air-conditioned spaces shall be closed when air conditioning is
in operation;
• Consider installing inverter split type air conditioners that are more energy
efficient than conventional split type or window type air conditioners;
• Clean cooling fins and air filters regularly to ensure air conditioners are
operating efficiently;
• Check regularly all automatic temperature controls to ensure they are
operating properly; and
• Consider locking the thermostats either at the desired setting or at a limited
range of adjustment by the end-users.
