5.1.1 Building User’s Guide for Teachers, Students and Staff
Key Points
• Instruction and guidance materials for teachers, students and staff using the
building facilities;
• Encourage and promote environmentally friendly building use and activities
by users; and
• Issues to be covered:
- - fire safety;
- - emergency handling procedures;
- - health and hygiene;
- - the selection, installation and use of energy efficient equipment, for
example, energy efficiency labelled appliances, renewable energy
systems, energy efficient systems;
- - energy efficient operation of equipment and facilities for air conditioning
units, fans, lighting, office equipment, etc;
- - water conservation;
- - the selection of sustainable materials for fitting out and redecoration;
- - cleaning, use of pesticides;
- - sorting, recycling, and hygienic disposal of waste materials, particularly
hazardous waste;
- - control of indoor pollutant sources; and
- - emphasis on environmental protection.
