Focus areas for future development of
Building Energy Code and Energy Audit Code
Focus areas for future development of Building Energy Code
• Section 5 Lighting
• Enhancement to lighting power density
• Development of metric and control for lighting energy consumption – for example
[kWh-lighting/sqm/yr]
• Section 6 Air-conditioning
• Enhancement to calculation to reflect part load or other realistic load situations
• Enhancement to leakage limit requirements
• Enhancement to specific flow power requirements
• Development of metric and control for fan energy consumption, such as [kWh-fan/
sqm/yr]
• Development of metric and control for specific flow power of pumps
• Development of metric and control for pump energy consumption [kWh-CHW/sqm/yr
or kWh-CDW/sqm/yr]
• Enhancement to friction loss control requirements
• Enhancement to temperature and humidity set-point control to facilitate greater
temperature flexibility
• Inclusion of clause to encourage greater flexibility in allowing pressure resets and
other set-backs
• Enhancement to thermal insulation requirements
• Enhancement to CoP requirements
• Development of metric and control for chiller energy consumption [kWh-Chiller/
sqm/yr]
• Development of metric and control for A/C system power [kW/ton]
• Development of metric and control for A/C system energy [kWh-A/C/sqm/yr]
• Section 7 Electrical Installations
• Enhancement to distribution and circuit loss requirements
• Enhancement to motor efficiency requirements
• Enhancement to power factor and harmonic distortion requirements
• Enhancement to metering to include sufficient sub-metering that facilitates energy
audits with consumption broken down into meaningful components [e.g. A/C, lighting
lifts and escalators, etc.]
