Green Master Plan for School
Baptist Lui Ming Choi Primary School
In 1999, the Baptist Lui Ming Choi Primary School recognised the importance
of conserving natural resources and began a plan to green the school.
They first formulated a green master plan that looked at the current and
future needs of students, the school and the community and then identified
strategies for fulfilling those needs.
Based on the green master plan, the school decided to promote
environmental stewardship by adopting an integrated holistic approach
consisting of various green initiatives, such as a weather station, kinetic
bicycles, PV panels, a green roof, fruit planting, etc. Through greening the
school, students have a more diverse and inspiring learning environment
and also the opportunity to enjoy the green facilities.
The school has installed renewable energy devices, including solar
photovoltaic panels, a weather station (left) and kinetic bicycles (right)
which save, on average, about HK$1,000 a month on its energy bills.
The school currently has more than 1,000 plants on campus where students
also involve in other green initiatives. Noticeable positive behavioural and
attitudinal changes of students in environmental conservation is observed.
