The Government has been committed to
promoting green building development. Since
2008, the Environment and Conservation Fund
(ECF) has subsidised about 600 schools to
integrate green features including green roof,
renewable energy facilities and energy efficient
installations. Besides, over twenty government
developments have been registered for BEAM
Plus, the tool launched by HKGBC for assessing
the environmental performance of buildings in
Hong Kong. The Government has also recently
completed an energy efficiency demonstration
project at a secondary school campus. In future,
the Government will continue to work with different
sectors in promoting sustainable development in
Hong Kong through a wide array of measures,
including the promotion of green building.
Hong Kong can become a world-class model of low
carbon, highly livable city. Building a sustainable
environment definitely takes time to come to
fruition. Fundamentally, the community at large
has to join hands to realise our green visions.
