3.4.2 Water Meters
Benefits
• Theprovisionof watermeteringencourages
students and teachers’ participation in
monitoring their school water usage and
how their behavioural changes can impact
on water consumption;
• Utilisation of water meters downstream
from the main water meter (monitored
by Water Supplies Department) allows
in-depth water consumption analysis on
different usage (e.g. potable use, cleaning,
irrigation, swimming pool);
• Close monitoring of water meter can help
identify water leakage (such as when billing
is substantially higher than normal);
• Identify water intensive fixture and therefore
opportunity to reduce water usage; and
• Provide testimony of actual water consumption and water reduction after
implementation of green initiative.
Issues to Consider
a. Opportunities
• Water meter can be utilised to monitor water usages in different areas.
b. Constraints
• If the existing water piping is not separated for different type of usages or
functional areas, then it might be difficult to adopt water meters to monitor
individual usages due to technical and warranty issues.
