c. Solutions
• Schools can consider the following recommendations:
Priority Fresh Air Provision
1
• Adoption of natural ventilation designed by new schools during
the development stage, utilising the natural breeze. (see Natural
Ventilation Design section in this Guide)
• When relying on fresh air generated by the natural breeze, air quality
in local area shall be evaluated (see Indoor Air Quality section in this
Guide).
2
• Install heat recovery ventilator that can supply fresh air to the space
which can recover the heating/cooling energy from the exhaust air in
order to precondition the incoming fresh air. This ventilator can reduce
the demand of air conditioning energy for fresh air conditioning. Please
refer to the figure on next page for explanation.
• Registered Professional Engineer (RPE) for Building Services
Discipline and/or Approved Supplier (Air Conditioning Category) shall
be consulted for aspects related to source of fresh air, system type,
capacity, system configuration, filtration, etc.
3
• CO
2
sensor can be installed to regulate the volume of fresh air supply
and thereby reduce energy consumption (if dedicated fresh air unit or
air handling unit is in place).
d. Professional Help
• Authorised Person (AP) – Appendix A (2)
• Registered Professional Engineer (RPE) in Building Services Discipline –
Appendix A (4)
• Approved Supplier (Air Conditioning Category) – Appendix B (1)
