Industry guidance and standards will be
provided to help the construction industry
become familiar with the zero carbon building
definition and strategies, and learn from the
scenarios and normative design solutions.
A computing programme will be developed
with a zero carbon building technology
database and five series of feasibility indices
for effectively delivering low or zero carbon
projects in the future.

Zero carbon buildings are complex socio-
technical systems, and their delivery in dense
urban settings is extremely challenging.
No research has been conducted on the
systematic feasibility of high-rise zero carbon
buildings in urban settings. This project
therefore addresses the knowledge gap by
adopting a systems approach, complemented
by innovative products and processes. The
research outcomes and deliverables will help
transform the built environment of Hong Kong
towards low carbon and sustainability, and
also position Hong Kong strategically to lead
zero carbon building research and practice.
