• Encourage wider use of rapidly renewable materials for appropriate
applications;
• Reduce consumption of natural resources that cannot regenerate quickly
(such as hardwood); and
• Rapidly renewable materials such as bamboo, wool, natural linoleum, etc.
require fewer natural resources to produce (land, water, energy, etc.) and
thus reduce environmental impacts and costs.
Issues to Consider

• Schools can promote sustainable practices by purchasing products that are
made of rapidly renewable materials.
b. Solutions
• Materials that are considered to be rapidly renewable include but are not
limited to:
- - Flooring made of bamboo, natural linoleum, cork, etc.;
- - Panel / Partitions made of sunflower seed, bamboo, wheatboard, etc.;
- - Cabinetry / fitting made of wheatboard, strawboard, soy bean composite,
bamboo, etc.;
- - Insulation made of cotton, strawbale, soy-based foam, etc.; and
- - Useful References (1), (2) & (3) provide further information regarding
products made of rapidly renewable materials.
