First Hong Kong Demonstration Model for Energy
Efficient School Building
Sing Yin Secondary School
The new campus of Sing Yin Secondary School demonstrates energy
efficiency and accredited Platinum rating in BEAM (March 2012).
This project was funded by the Government between 2011 and 2012. The
new school has incorporated various energy efficient features over a site
area of 8,630 m
2
, including:
• Energy management system,
• Water-cooled Variable Refrigerant Volume (VRV) air conditioning
system,
• LED lighting system; and
• Renewable energy features, including photovoltaic panels, solar water
heaters, small-scale wind turbines and daylight sun tubes.
The total cost of the energy efficient features was approximately HK$5.8
million. It is expected that energy consumption will be reduced by 27.3%
annually.
