Hong Kong Green Building Week 2013

Launched to Promote Green Building Development

The first-ever public campaign to encourage everyone in Hong Kong to live a green lifestyle today for a sustainable future

Hong Kong, 1 August 2013 – The Construction Industry Council (CIC) and the Hong Kong Green Building Council (HKGBC) for the first time jointly organise the Hong Kong Green Building Week 2013 (HKGBW 2013) in September to promote green building development, boost public awareness on green lifestyle, and drive behavioural and mindset change through a series of programmes in collaboration with six green groups and associations.

Expanding the scope of the Sustainable Building 2013 Hong Kong Regional Conference (SB13 HK) for the industry, the HKGBW 2013 will be held during 7-14 September and is also a part of the “Hong Kong: Our Home” Campaign launched by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government on building positive energy and social cohesion.  Mr. WONG Kam-sing, JP, Secretary for the Environment of the HKSAR Government joined the launching ceremony today to announce and introduce the HKGBW 2013 together with Ir LEE Shing-see, GBS, OBE, JP, Chairman of the CIC, and Ir Conrad T.C. WONG, BBS, JP, Chairman of HKGBC.

“As one of the founding members of the HKGBC, the CIC has been strengthening the sustainability of the construction industry in Hong Kong through conducting different publicity programmes related to environmental protection and sustainable development, such as the launch of ZCB, the first zero carbon building, which is successfully raising community awareness of sustainable living,” said Ir LEE Shing-see.  “We are enhancing our efforts in educating the public with the launch of the HKGBW 2013 which is supported by the Environment Bureau and the Development Bureau of the HKSAR Government, as well as other green groups and associations.  I am confident that, with the collaboration of different sectors, the goal of transforming Hong Kong to a green city can be achieved.”

“As a pioneer to foster a sustainable built environment in Hong Kong, HKGBC is proud to launch the first-ever public campaign of HKGBW 2013 with the CIC. Through working with a range of green groups and partnering organisations, HKGBW 2013 demonstrates a synergy that realises extensive reach to the mass public and educates society on energy-saving directives,” said Ir Conrad T.C. WONG.  “It echoes HKGBC’s HK3030 campaign activated in March, which contributes to the vision for a low carbon and sustainable built environment in Hong Kong by 2030.”

A series of programmes have been held and are running through September, leading to the actual HKGBW on 7-14 September, targeting to educate and drive behavioural change among literally everyone in Hong Kong.  HKGBW 2013 programmes include:
