Public Sector Tung Chung Area 56
Projects

The development of Tung Chung Area 56
adopts many innovative sustainability
designs. The project has already been
awarded a provisional Platinum rating in
BEAM Plus Version 1.2 and is targeted
to acquire 3 stars under the China Green
Building Label. Creating a green and quality
life has always been a core value of the HA.
In Tung Chung Area 56, energy consumption
has been reduced by 9 percent as a result
of the stringent application of the green
building assessment approach of BEAM Plus.
The building envelope has been optimised
with good thermal properties, such as low-E
glass with a low shading coefficient (SC)
and low window-to-wall ratio. The layout
facilitates cross ventilation in the flats,
common lift lobbies and corridors. The high
Average Daylight Factor means more daylight
harvesting, and thus reduced lighting energy
consumption. Energy-saving lamps with
two-stage lighting systems are used in all
public areas. There is high-density greening
of 30 percent overall and 20 percent at
grade. A rainwater harvesting system will be
adopted for irrigation purposes.
