CFD results of Ventilation Performance in common area with
use of natural ventilation

This research study aims to study the current status of BEAM
Plus with respect to building passive design (BPD). A gap
analysis has been carried out to compare the schemes with
the assessment schemes in other countries, such as the US,
Mainland China, Singapore, Australia, Japan and Israel. Based
on the gap analysis, the differences between BEAM Plus and
the other assessment schemes have been identified in the
category of Energy Use (EU).
Different strategies are proposed in this research study to
enhance the current performance approach and create a
prescriptive approach to bring building design practice to
a higher level with more implementation of BPD, and thus
construct more energy efficient buildings.
A clear methodology is introduced to identify the opportunity of
energy saving through natural ventilation under performance
approach, which was commonly found difficult to carry out. As
for a prescriptive approach, CFD simulation technique is used
to carry out wind availability assessment and internal ventilation
layout design, and using advance energy simulation to carry out
analysis to optimize building design in orientation and internal
heat gain.
The study provides more stringent criteria for building design
and encourages utilization of natural resources, which will
help lower the impact on global warming. Sensitivity tests and
engagement exercise with stakeholders have been conducted to
ensure the new approaches are environmentally effective.
此項研究旨在審視香港現有的建築環保評估標準(BEAM
Plus),並進行差距分析以鑑定該標準和其他國家(例如美
國、中國大陸、新加坡、澳大利亞、日本及以色列)的建築
評估標準之間的差異。結果顯示,其差異主要在能源使用方
面。
此項研究提出不同策略,務求改善目前的能源計算方法,並
建立一套規範方法,以提高被動式設計的實施水平,從而建
設更多節能建築。
現有的建築評估難以確定自然通風對建築的實際效益,因此
研究提供一個明確的方法量化自然通風的效益。另一方面,
我們以計算流體力學模擬技術,監測自然風及室內空氣流動
情況,並利用先進的能源模擬技術進行分析,優化建築設計
及內部增熱。
研究同時為建築設計業界提供一套更嚴謹的標準,鼓勵利用
天然資源,從而降低對全球暖化的影響。新建築評估標準已
進行測試,以確保能有效達到目的。
