How the Challenges have been
Addressed in the Process of
Sustainable Development

Sustainable development demands

comprehensive consideration of

fast-evolving design philosophies,

technologies, construction practices and

management in cross-disciplinary and related

issues. Synergies have been established

in knowledge transfer and advancements

by multi-disciplinary professional institutes

to equip building professionals with the

right skills. Hong Kong’s unique model

of sustainability is served by diverse

range of measures, including innovative

technologies, green building materials, green

transportation strategies, smart building

controls, sustainable urban infrastructure and First commercial project awarded BEAM Plus New Building Final Platinum Rating in 2013:
Hysan Place
sustainable city planning.

To facilitate in-depth and cross-sector
discussion, and to help forge
consensus-building in the community, the
Council for Sustainable Development engages
stakeholders and the public on a number of key
issues regarding a SBE. Recommendations
have been proposed to promote systemic and
legislative enhancements and to facilitate
behaviour change in various aspects of
SBE. Relevant government departments or
stakeholders have also taken action on those
recommendations.
