The Hong Kong Government is very committed to promoting
energy conservation and improving energy efficiency, however,
many people in Hong Kong are not aware of the role that
windows play in creating an energy efficient workplace or home.
Aware of the critical importance of reducing thermal transmit-
tance and radiative heat transfer through windows, we brought
the material In’flector to Hong Kong last year. The material is a
“radiant barrier window insulator”, designed originally by NASA
for use in the space shuttle. It has been around for some 30 years
but has been used mainly in domestic premises in the United
States. The material, which can be installed as a panel, roller or
vertical blinds, on the inside of existing windows, was tested for
us by SERIS (Solar Energy Research Institutive of Singapore) to
evaluate its effectiveness in climates such as those of Hong
Kong or Singapore.
The test results were very significant and show that by using
In’flector that the thermal transmittance (U-value) for double
glazing was reduced by 21 percent; and 46% compared to that
of stand alone single glazing. In respect of SHGC (or G-value)
In’flector reduced this by 41 percent compared to a stand alone
double glazing glass or 55 percent in respect of single glazing.
The material which can help secure LEED points is manufactured
by an ISO 9001:2008 certified company who adopted lean
manufacturing processes in 2003. It is being installed in the CIC
Zero Carbon Building, designed by Ronald Lu & Partners.
即使香港政府致力推動能源節約及改善能源效益，但普遍市民
仍是不太了解玻璃窗在營造一個能源效益的工作和家居環境中
所擔當的角色。了解到減少玻璃窗的熱量與輻射熱傳導重要
性，我司在去年率先把In’flector引入香港。這物料是一種用於
阻隔輻射熱的隔熱物料，最初由美國太空總署研發用於航天太
空船屏蔽窗戶，在過去三十年主要採用於美國本土的建築物
內。物料能以嵌板、滾軸式捲簾或垂直簾的形式加裝於現有窗
戶上。物料更經過新加坡太陽能研究所的測試評估其於亞洲如
香港和新加坡等地區氣候所能發揮的效能。
測試結果顯示雙層玻璃加裝In’flector後其熱傳導係數 (U值)能
降低二十一個百分率；加裝在單層玻璃上，熱傳導係數更大大
降低四十六個百分率。至於遮陽係數 (G值)，In’flector能降低
雙層玻璃的G值達四十一個百分率或降低單層玻璃的G值達五
十五個百分率。
此物料由一間通過ISO 9001:2008認證的公司所生產，此公司
自二00三年已開始採用精益製造的生產技術來減少廢品。物
料更將被安裝於由呂元祥建築師事務所設計的香港建造業議會
首座零碳建築內。
