Building maintenance may involve removal of materials, which
has often adopted methods of mechanical breaking that will not
only bring about tremendous nuisances such as noise, vibration
and dust but also likely have detrimental effects on structural
elements. In the past, there was no better environmental solution
to cope with this problem in Hong Kong.
Committed to providing a comfort and tranquil living ambience
for her tenants, the Hong Kong Housing Authority (HKHA)
introduced an environmentally friendly technique,
hydro-scarification, to minimize the nuisances. Making use of
high-pressure water jet, hydro-scarification can remove building
materials such as concrete, tiles, painting, etc., in a much quieter
way without causing damage to the structures.
Since developing the first hydro-scarification machine in 2007,
HKHA has been pursuing enhancement of its efficiency,
applicability and technicality. Through progressive improvements
over the years, the machine has evolved from a manually-
operated car into a smaller-sized automatic machine having the
merits that a) it can work flexibly in areas of different sizes; b) it
can function automatically as programmed; c) it can enhance
significantly the removal efficiency; and d) it can be dismantled
easily into smaller parts for convenient transportation inside
buildings. Extensive experience was accrued through various
pilot projects and currently this technique is widely used in
HKHA projects.
HKHA has been striving to introduce this technique to the
building industry, including academics, government departments
particularly the Environmental Protection Department, and the
private sector with a view to making material removal in Hong
Kong an environmentally sustainable practice.
The HKHA has taken also green initiatives in making use of the
wastewater arising from the hydro-scarification works for
cleansing purpose, and the aggregates for recycling.

無有效的環保清拆方法解决這些問題。
香港房屋委員會(下稱「房委會」)致力
住戶提供舒適寧靜
的居住環境,因此引入環保的水力清拆技術,減低清拆物料所
造成的滋擾。水力清拆技術採用高壓水力噴槍拆除混凝土、磚
塊、油漆等建築物料,整個過程大幅度減少嘈音及不會損壞樓
宇結構。
房委會在2007年研製第一部水力清拆機後,不斷鑽研以提升
其效率、擴大用途和提高技術。經過多年的逐步改良,水力清
拆機已由一部人手操作的車輛發展成一套體積較少的自動機械
裝置,優點包括(1)可應用在不同大小的地方、(2)可按程式自
動運作、(3)具更高效率拆除物料,以及(4) 可輕易拆成細小組
件,方便運送到大廈各地方。房委會進行各項試驗計劃後,已
累積豐富經驗,水力清拆技術目前在房委會的工程中廣泛應用
房委會一直向建築業界積極推廣這套技術,對象包括學界、政
府部門尤其是環境保護署和私營企業,務求全港的拆除物料工
程按可持續環保的方式進行。作
進一步的環保措施,清拆工
程產生的廢水會作清洗用途,而以水力清拆出來的砂石亦會回
收重用。
