Green Building Award 2016

The HKGBC has always been driven by a clear and

unwavering vision that it has an important role to play in

helping to save the planet and create a healthier environment

for the people of Hong Kong by promoting and facilitating

green development. Buildings in Hong Kong account for

90% of the total electricity consumption, and 60% of its

greenhouse gas emissions. While the industry has been

highly supportive in the adoption of green design and

construction in new buildings, the majority of Hong Kong’s

building stock comprises existing buildings. It is this huge

number of existing buildings that offer such tremendous

potential for turning our city into a low-carbon metropolis.

From the outset, the Green Building Award (GBA) was

intended to provide a platform for industry stakeholders,

creating new opportunities for them to advance the cause

of green building in a wide range of categories and aspects.

I am very pleased to see the important role that the Award

continues to play in nourishing and strengthening the

concepts of green building in the industry, especially by

recognising various stakeholders’ great achievements.

I offer my congratulations to all GBA 2016 award winners

who have skilfully demonstrated that green building

belongs at the very heart of Hong Kong’s construction

industry. I likewise offer my heartfelt thanks to the GBA 2016

Organising Committee and the Jury Panel for making this

year’s event such a successful and valuable occasion. My

gratitude also goes to the Construction Industry Council

for continuous support for HKGBC’s development, our co-

organiser Professional Green Building Council, as well as

other key stakeholders including the HKGBC Directors,

HKGBC Standing Committee Members and the Secretariat

for their commitments and contributions.

一直以來，香港綠色建築議會的願景清晰方向明確，希望通

過推廣和促進綠色建築發展，為香港締造綠色的建築環境，

從而保護地球，造福香港市民。香港建築物佔全港耗電量

90% 以及溫室氣體排放量 60%。雖然業界在新建建築中已大

量採用綠色設計和建造技術，然而香港絕大多數建築物是既

有建築。數目之多讓香港具有巨大潛力轉化為低碳之都。

環保建築大獎的設立旨在為業界相關人士提供平台及創造新

機會，從而在各種不同的範疇及層面推動綠色建築的理念。

我非常高興地看到了本獎項在建築業界中發揮培育和強化綠

色建築意識的重要作用，並透過獎項嘉許不同持分者的傑出

成就。

我謹此祝賀環保建築大獎 2016 的所有獲獎者，他們展示了

綠色建築在香港建築界的核心地位。此外我衷心感謝環保建

築大獎 2016 籌辦委員會以及評審團成就了這一成功而寶貴

的活動。同時，我對建造業議會一直以來對香港綠色建築議

會發展的支持由衷感激、亦感謝是次大獎的合辦機構環保建

築專業議會、香港綠色建築議事董事、常設委員會會員和秘

書處等的承擔與貢獻。
